How can we help you?

Firm history

The firm of William Powell Architect was founded, in 1993.  It was intended to be and has remained, a private residential design practice.  As a sole-practitioner, Mr. Powell serves each client personally.  Collaborations with other architects are possible when advantageous for large scale work, but the essence of a small residential practice is the one-to-one nature of the architect-client relationship.  We work as a team on each project, with a General Contractor and a structural engineering consultant.

William Barton Powell, AIA began his career in the architectural profession while in college, in 1969.  Over the following decades he worked for three major firms in Boston, and was the Project Architect for various large residential and corporate projects.  His last major work was with the firm of Goody, Clancy & Associates on the renovation of the former New England Telephone Company headquarters building in downtown Post Office Square.  It involved the major transformation of its streetscape, a grand new entry design, dramatic lighting of the building at night and major lobby changes.

WPA uses the latest in CAD software for full 3D modeling of buildings and photo-realistic, rendered images as well.  Mr. Powell believes strongly in the integration of the latest in high-technology in the practice and all in projects as necessary.  Websites are used for private project presentations and electronic documents are shared with consulting engineers and field supervisors for efficiency, coordination and the best quality we can achieve.

Professional Certification and Affiliations

William Barton Powell has been licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts since 1982, and was granted membership in the Boston Society of Architects (BSA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 1984.
